Whole Body Cryotherapy
HOW DOES WHOLE BODY CRYOTHERAPY (WBC) WORK?
Cryotherapy works by rapidly lowering the skins temperature for 2-3 minutes using liquid nitrogen to cool the Cryochamber to ideal temperatures of -160 to -260 degrees ferenheit. As the skins temperature decreases, blood rushes to the core, shocking the system and stimulating hormones, as well as the immune and nervous system.
During this process, red blood cells loop through the cardiovascular system which filters toxins and adds oxygen, nutrients, and enzymes to the red blood cells.
As the body warms, circulation of oxygen and nutrient rich blood rushes back to the muscle and skin tissue as well as surrounding joint space.
Some of the many benefits of Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC) include:
Reduced Joint Pain/Inflammation
Restored Sleep Patterns
Quicker Recovery Time
Reduced Muscle Soreness
Natural Performance Enhancer
Flushes Toxins out of the Body

What is Spot Cryotherapy?
Spot Cryotherapy targets a specific area using the same principles of Whole Body Cryotherapy with temperatures reaching -220 degrees F throughout a 5-15 minute session. We recommend using this treatment in conjunction with Whole Body Cryotherapy for optimal results!
Spot Cryotherapy treatments are used to reduce pain, inflammation, and swelling in targeted areas using liquid nitrogen to constrict blood vessels. This form of Cryotherapy targets specific areas of the body that are inflamed causing severe chronic pain. It is also an excellent tool for treating migraines, headaches, sprains, and recent acute injuries.
This quick and effective treatment can also target conditions:
Sprains and strains
Carpal tunnel syndrome

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What should I expect when visiting Cryotherapy Advantage?
A: Our facility is a relaxing and inviting environment! We want you to recover with ease and comfort. After being greeted, some general information and waiver will need to be completed before using the facility. You will then be shown to the Cryotherapy room and given instructions, socks, slippers, and gloves (gentleman must wear boxer shorts). Once your protective clothing is on and you’re ready to begin, the technician will return to start the session. Privacy is very important to us! We will only see your face, the rest of your body will be in the cryosauna. Music will be playing, lights can be dimmed if preferred, and the conversation makes the time fly and you instantly feel the effects of the cryosauna. Post cryo session, you may leave to go about your day, or if you are moving to our NormaTec Recovery area, complimentary beverages are provided, along with tv, and wi-fi!
Q: Is there any special training required to use the Cryotherapy machine?
A: Yes. All of our technicians have been properly trained and certified to use the machine and handle the liquid nitrogen.
Q: Is Whole Body Cryotherapy safe?
A: Yes! Nitrogen is a non-toxic natural gas. The nitrogen we use to cool the cryosauna is the same nitrogen that makes up the air we breathe (78%). In the cryosauna the client breathes room-air. Problems only arise if a client steps into the cryochamber with wet skin or clothing, which we avoid by taking all the proper precautions, including taking their blood pressure before every session, and having them dry off if necessary. At Cryotherapy Advantage, we provide dry socks, slippers, gloves, and robes. Towels are also available in the changing rooms. Men must wear dry work-out shorts or underwear. Women may wear dry sports bra and shorts, bathing suit, or nothing at all.
Q: If I am claustrophobic, can I use the cryochamber?
A: Yes! The door is never locked and a Cryo Technician is with you at all times. You can request to step out at any time. Upon entering the cryosauna, our Cryo Technician raises the platform and your head is exposed above the cryosauna. Clients breathe room-air and an oxygen monitor is operating at all times.
Q: How long will my first session take?
A: Your first Cryotherapy session will take anywhere from 15- 20 minutes. We like to educate our clients and answer any questions they may have. After the first appointment, sessions typically take less than 10 minutes!
Q: How does Whole Body Cryotherapy work?
A: The cryosauna uses cryogenic nitrogen vapor to lower the skin surface temperature by 30-50 degrees in 3 minutes or less. The skin reacts to the cold and sends messages to the brain that acts as a stimulant to the regulatory functions of the body. The skin exposure to the extreme temperatures also triggers the release of anti-inflammatory molecules, endorphins, increased oxygen in the blood and the release of toxins.
Q: Will I be able to stand the cold?
A: There is no actual freezing, only the feeling of being cold. Whole Body Cryotherapy is simply very cold air flowing over the surface of the skin. The air is completely dry and safe with the protective gloves, socks and slippers we provide.
Q: How often should I do Cryotherapy?
A: Well, this is very dependent on what you’re utilizing cryotherapy for. Most clients who use it for overall health and wellness receive a Cryo session 1 to 2 times a week. Clients who have an injury, inflammation, and aches and pains receive anywhere from 2 to 4 sessions a week.
Q: Can I do a session of Whole Body Cryotherapy and Spot Cryotherapy in the same day?
A: Absolutely! If there’s an area of your body that’s particularly inflamed or in pain, doing a session of WBC followed by a spot cryotherapy session will dramatically decrease the discomfort and accelerate the recovery time!
Q: What makes the Cryotherapy chamber so cold?
A: These cryosauna tanks! These tanks cool you down consistently and transform the air inside the chamber to -220 degrees for a maximum of 3 minutes.
Q: Is it safe to go that cold?
A: Yes it is. The length of the session maxes out at 3 minutes and has an auto shut-off timer. This short period of time does not allow your body to reach a hypothermic state.
Q: Do I exercise before or after my Cryotherapy session?
A: It’s safe either way! If you exercise before Whole Body Cryotherapy, you will experience increased energy and greater recovery due to the reduction in inflammation. If you exercise after your session, you will experience a higher pain tolerance and more energy.
Q: Do you guys believe in and use Cryotherapy to help recover yourselves?
A: YES! The employees at Cryotherapy Advantage all live very active lifestyles. We are constantly striving to hit new goals pertaining to our fitness. As a result, there are days where we suffer from fatigue, extreme muscle soreness, and pain. There are days where we need a little extra boost, so we absolutely utilize Cryotherapy to help us recover more quickly and get back to training! You can’t explain what you don’t know or haven’t experienced yourself – and we know cryotherapy!
Q: Can I take a picture of myself in the cryochamber?
A: Absolutely! In fact, we encourage it! Just let our technician know and we will be happy to snap a photo of you inside the chamber for you to share on social media!
Q: Is Whole Body Cryotherapy the same as an ice bath?
A: NO! Whole Body Cryotherapy is an advanced form of ice therapy but not the same. Ice baths can last up to 20 minutes, are painful and damaging to the skin. In the cryochamber, the skin is never penetrated, yet the body responds on a deeper level, and improves the skin’s overall condition! Whole Body Cryotherapy is much faster (max time of 3 minutes) and results in better recovery which leads to better performance.
